DR. THERESA ADU

Dr. Theresa Adu joined the University of Health and Allied Sciences in September 2021 as the first female University Librarian. A seasoned librarian with over 27 years of professional experience, she served seventeen years in a Special Library as the Librarian and Manager of the Documentation Centre and WTO National Enquiry Point of the Ghana Standards Authority. She also served ten years as the University Librarian for Wisconsin International University College, Ghana.
Dr. Adu obtained her M.Phil. degree in Library Studies from the University of Ghana, specializing in business information delivery to SMEs. She holds a PhD in Information Science from the University of South Africa (UNISA). She specializes in Intellectual Property and related issues and is currently developing expertise in copyright issues in academic libraries. She has since published several articles in world-renowned library journals.
Before her appointment, she was part of the editorial team for the Wisconsin Journal. She is a reviewer for Mousaion, a South African Journal of Information Studies, and the Journal for Academic Librarianship. Dr. Adu is also the current Country Coordinator for copyright issues for Electronic Information for Librarians (EISL). She is a member of the AfLIA (African Library and Information Associations and Institutions) Working Group on Copyright and Legal Matters.
She has been a consultant for the Maranatha University College, the Institute of Engineers, Ghana, and once served as a part-time lecturer at the Department of Information Studies, University of Ghana.
Dr. Adu has rich local and international experience, has participated and presented papers at several international conferences in the UK, India, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and many other countries; she is a chartered member of the Ghana Library Association (GLA); and she is currently the Treasurer for the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH).
Dr. Theresa Adu is married with children.
